In response to the needs of the Hispanic older adult community, NHCOA has developed a flipchart to provide a charla (educational session) to Hispanic seniors and their families. The flipchart explains with pictures and text the main concepts of Medicare. The flipchart, “Mi Medicare: Un Asunto de Familia,” is designed to be used with small groups and/or in one-on-one sessions. It is easy to use and contains a guide for the volunteer or promotor (community outreach worker) to read as he or she gives the charla.

This brochure has been developed to support the Medicare educational sessions, so that the community members will be able to take the main points of the charla to their homes and discuss them with their family members (parents and grandparents).

This is a flyer that focuses on a key message to prevent Medicare fraud among Hispanic older adults. As requested by the Hispanic community during the needs assessment implemented by NHSMP in Texas, the message is in Spanish, and it goes right to the point, emphasizing the main types of fraud in a way that is easy to understand.

This poster, “Report Medicare Fraud,” has the same message as the flyer above, but it is in a larger size, to be placed in strategic locations where the community gathers such as medical centers, senior centers, churches, health fairs, etc.

Medicare Bingo/Lotería is an interactive game developed to help Hispanic older adults learn about Medicare in a fun way. Medicare can be confusing, but by incorporating a culturally relevant game such as this one into Medicare education, we are able to simplify, teach, and reinforce knowledge about the Medicare program.
